As Barcelona work towards tying down Lionel Messi with a new deal,
reports have emerged that the super star player is requesting the off
loading of four players as part of conditions for him to sign a new
deal.
According to Spanish publication, Don Balon, the Argentina captain
wants Munir El Haddadi, Thomas Vermaelen, Arda Turan and Andre Gomes to
leave the Nou Camp.
Messi, who got married last weekend, is demanding for improvement at
Barca, after they lost their league title to eternal rivals Real Madrid
last season and crashed out of the Champions League at the quarter final
stage.
Although he is willing to sign the new deal before going away with
his wife for a break, he has told the club’s officials to freshen up the
squad. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is out of contract in 2018, but a
new agreement is all but finalised after months of negotiations between
the player, his father Jorge and the club.
Lionel Messi is expected to put pen to paper on a fresh agreement
that will take him up until 2021 with the option of one further season
and the deal should make him the world’s highest-paid player with wages
in excess of €22m per year after tax.
The Argentine made his Barca debut in 2004 and has won 30 trophies
during his time at the Catalan club, scoring more than 500 goals. This
new contract could see him retire at Camp Nou.
